Doug Worthington Memorial
Photographic Competition
The Rotary Club of Heirisson is proud to announce the inaugural Doug Worthington Memorial Photographic Competition in 2023.
The competition will be an annual event held in memory of Doug Worthington, a Rotarian of 23 years standing, who was a champion of Western Australia’s (WA) Rotary Youth Exchange program for nearly two decades. He coordinated student placements across the Globe, including Denmark,Finland, Norway, Sweden, Estonia, the Netherlands, Belgium,Germany, France, Switzerland, Italy and Slovakia, as well as Thailand, Taiwan, Japan, Brazil, Argentina, around Australia,and here in WA.
Doug’s former students have made this competition possible. Upon hearing of Doug’s untimely death, they set about raising funds to ensure that Doug’s contribution to the Rotary Exchange program would be memorialised appropriately. And what better way to do that than to hold a photographic competition for exchange students, in the name of one of Rotary’s keenest photographers.
All Outbound Rotary Exchange Students are invited to submit an entry in the Doug Worthington Memorial Photographic Competition in one or all of the following categories:
1) My Host Country
2) I am a Rotarian at Heart
3) Travails of Travel
4) What did I learn from my exchange
Second place $250
Third Place $100
The judging panel will comprise one representative from the Rotary Club of Heirisson, a professional photographer and Penny Worthington. Winners will be notified via email on 30 August 2023.
If possible, the prizes will be presented in person by Penny Worthington.
1. Entrants must be Outbound Rotary Exchange Students (past).
2. Entries must have been taken during the students exchange year.
3. Only one entry may be submitted in each category.
4. Entries are to be provided digitally via email and clearly state the entry category.
5. Entries must be accompanied by a brief paragraph describing where the photograph was taken, what the photograph means to the entrant and why that particular photograph was chosen.
6. Entries must be less than 5 megabytes in size.
7. Entries must be in Jpg format.
8. Entries must be sent to Club Secretary Sheridan Webb email sheridan@prorank.net
9. Entries must be received by 31 July 2023.
