Camp Opportunity in January

Camp Opportunity was held 21 to 27 January at Port Walter Camp with 30 campers, their buddies and committee members.  The participants were into two groups, one group did certain activities in the morning, then swap to do different activities in the afternoon that the other group had done in the morning.

No phones were allowed and the participants received back packs and hats.

Activities included: Shirt printing, a trip to Perth Zoo, kite flying instruction and archery. The flying fox where one was in an undignified position. Abseiling, karaoke, sea biscuiting,  constructing woodwork at Bunnings, dancing and singing. Mascara mask making for the evening event. Ten pin bowling, pool partying, and dinner at the Esplanade with us all dressed up.

Adventure world was the highlight with 7 hours being spent there. That evening each group did a skit for the evening talent show.

We attended the Australia day fireworks, then a farewell after breakfast.

What did I gain from this camp experience? I was able to overcome fears, especially of heights. Learnt that I could mix with and look out for other people. The wonderful experience of befriending, and it felt good giving advice to people.

I am always self-conscious of my anxiousness when with people, yet at the Camp I felt noticed and accepted for who I am.

Marie was James' buddy and Marie found it to be a wonderfully rewarding experience as a companion for low and high functioning people. Marie wants to continue with this experience until reaching the cut off date of 35.
Caitlin from Mt Lawley has produced a video that captures the Camp experience.

Robyn Penny invited members to come to the Camp dinner this coming January 2019.

Agenda for Heirisson Meeting 30 August 2018

Dear Heirisson Rotary members,

The Heirisson Rotary Club has to make some decisions on its future.  This will happen at this Thursday’s (30Aug) meeting at Antico Café.  With the demise of the WA Club, it makes sense that we continue meeting at Antico until we get more members, when the Club can review the location.

The agenda for Thursday morning’s meeting is as follows:

·       Meeting Format (Greg).  We need the members’ views on:

        o flags on display,
o Rotary charge and/or Grace to start the meeting,
        o Sergeant’s session,
o National Anthem to close the meeting

·       Projects (Allan).  We need to understand member commitment to 2 of the Club’s significant projects:

o       Sunday morning Bacon & Eggs at Stirling Markets
o       Duck Derby in March 2019

·       Board Positions (Ken initially).  We need to fill 3 more Board positions:

o       President for the remainder of 2018/19 after Greg Hunter’s interim 3 months expires in September
o       President Elect for the 2019/20 year
o       Treasurer for 2018/19 from October

·       Membership Drive (Ken).  We need ideas on how we might best increase our membership.

This includes target market, promotion, web site, prospect identification and contact etc.

Please do some thinking about these items, and I look forward to seeing you there tomorrow and the discussions.

If you are unable to make it and want to comment on any of the matters referred to above, please get back to me by email and I will take your comments to the meeting.

Thanks and regards
Don

Rotary Meeting at Girrawheen Senior High School.

As advised at our last meeting, our meeting of Thursday 6th September, (Thursday week,) will be held at Girrawheen Senior High School in the recently renovated School Library.

All members of the Interact Club will be our guests and the purpose of the meeting is to show the Interact members how a Rotary Club is conducted. We are hoping the new leadership group will adopt this style for their meetings.

This meeting will be conducted in our normal manner, except rather than breakfast, we will bring in Pizza and refreshments will be available.

Great news for all those that missed
Sofia’s presentation, she will be the Guest Speaker so you can now see her presentation.

Details of the meeting will be;

Date: Thursday 6th August 2018.

Location: Girrawheen Senior High School Library 39 Calvert Way, Girrawheen.

Time: 3.00pm for a 3.15pm start - 4.15pm.

Cost: $15.00 per head - to buy Pizza.

Dress: smart casual.

RSVP: ASAP - we will circulate a list this Thursday

For those who have limited exposure to Girrawheen, this is a great opportunity to meet our Interact students and get acquainted with the school.

We are looking forward to a great response in support of the Interact Club students.
