Hi Folks,
Last week.....
City of Perth Deputy Lord Mayor Ms Sandy Angie gave us insight into the Councils plans generally and their focus on Homelessness in particular. A very interesting 20 mins but your erstwhile reporter found the news that two women died of hypothermia on Perth's streets in July a shocking but true example of the nature of homelessness on the streets of Perth City. Also disturbing was that these unfortunate deaths rarely make the news! If reported, perhaps the general empathy would be markedly increased.
And here's a couple of pics of our "Eye Contact" exhibition following the Street Chaplin's conference at the Uniting Church in Bicton delivered there by DB, GH and JC the day before. The second pic features Dee, Fr. Daniel and Don.

Launch of the My Home Project
On Friday 27th August, Community Services Minister Simone McGurk officially launched the My Home project at the 1st site - 5 Congdon Street, North Fremantle. Rotary has been closely associated with this project for a number of years, and there was a strong Rotary contingent there to celebrate the launch. Speakers included Michael Piu of St Patricks Fremantle who will run the facility, Felicity Gooding from the Minderoo Foundation, who are a major donor, and of course Michelle Blakeney of City Rotary who is the instigator and manager of the project. Lotterywest and the Sisters of St John of God are also major donors. Rotary Clubs in WA will provide $100,000 worth of furnishings and garden-ware.
