Hello members,
From Treasurer Don,
Our new venue - Claisebrook Design Community (CBDC) – 25 Gladstone Street, Perth
Thanks to Justin and Bronwyn who located it, on Tuesday 20 September we had our first meeting in the Claisebrook Design Community (next door to Sayers Little Brother Café), and those present responded positively. The room is spacious, there is an area for pre-meeting socialising, and we can store all our gear there. We have membership up to the 21st December and after Christmas we can apply again, and get membership at $360/ month for 12 months. Charging our members $20.00 a meeting should cover that expense and the cost of food provided by a local IGA. Further, our membership allows us to use the spaces any time during the month for other meetings.
Guest speaker – Ineke Oliver, District Governor
Ineke Oliver was our first Guest Speaker in our new venue, and was accompanied by husband Geoff and Assistant Governor, Jane O’Leary. Ineke firstly complimented the club on its efforts in 2021-2022, before explaining the ramifications of the proposed Rotary Zone 8 regionalisation pilot will proceed, which President Bronwyn will need to vote on - on our behalf by 29 September. Ineke highlighted that the project is only a pilot to address membership, public image, communication, and fundraising challenges to ensure Rotary thrives long into the future. The overarching aim is to provide better and more direct support to clubs through a less layered, but more effective and contemporary structure. The ideals of Rotary are to be retained with the focus remaining on the Clubs and their engagement with each other and their communities.
Ineke encouraged members to attend the next District Conference which will be held in Mandurah February 17-18, 2023. She distributed a flyer about the event, shown below. The conference will be our last before a new District 9423 commences in July 2023.
‘Give-a-Feed’ Campaign for 2022
Ken Mullin advised that the ‘Give-a-Feed’ campaign for 2022 will be launched at our Club meeting on 15 November, and our packing day – always a fun team-building event – will be on 21 November. At last week’s Board meeting, it was agreed that the Club donate $600 (equivalent to 20 hampers) to the campaign.

Rotary Youth Exchange – on again in 2023!
David Cleary has informed us that after the two year hiatus (due to Covid), the Rotary Youth exchange program will restart in 2023. This is great news, as it is one of Rotary’s best programs. This means that our reciprocal Inbound Exchange Student for our last outbound, James Shoebridge, is expected to arrive in July 2023. We will also be opening applications for outbound students who will leave in January 2024 soon. It is now time to start seeking potential host families for our Inbound student next July, and looking for a new Outbound student from our local area to experience a year living in another country in 2024.

Brass on the Grass – Sunday 11 December 2022
Just a quick note to say that the East Perth Community Group (EPCG) has advised that it is likely that this year’s ‘Brass on the Grass’ will be shifted to Sunday 11 December. It will still be held in Victoria Gardens, but it is likely to a larger event than in previous years. However, we will still be offering foodstuffs (to be decided), with profits to be donated to St Barts. Don Burnside is liaising with the EPCG gang, and will be approaching club members for assistance closer to the time.

Robin Arndt has been meeting with Samantha Dury (CEO, St Barts) who has adviosed that large renovations are being undertaken, with the assistance of a substantial Government Grant, at their premises in Lime St. and Brown St. over the next couple of years.
