From President Don;
Hello Everyone :)
Evening Meeting at Gloucester Park, Tuesday 3 May
We had a great meeting with a good roll-up of members, guests and visitors from other Rotary Clubs – 20 people in all. The meeting was lively, with a highlight being a decision by Greg Hunter to auction Bronwyn’s bottle of wine (which she won in the raffle) with Warwick winning the bidding for $170 with the funds to be contributed to International projects. And now we just need to replace Bronwyn’s bottle … 😊. Sergeant Rod Slater also provided a donation of $400 which was contributed by business contacts, which was very generous. Together with fines and teapot – we have banked $689.05. Well done everyone!
Guest Speaker on 3 May – Chris Curnow, Rangelands NRM
In his second presentation to the club, Chris talked out the work being done by Aboriginal rangers in the vast desert areas of the state, much of which is included in areas held as exclusive Native Title within Indigenous Protected Areas (IPAs). The Australian Government supports Traditional Owner Ranger Groups to report upon and protect rare and endangered species such as the Mallee Fowl (below), Bilbies, Night Parrots, and the great desert skinks. The methods include traditional practices – in particular use of fire to create a mosaic of burnt and unburnt areas – and weed and feral animal control. The practices used by the people have both environmental and cultural benefits. Chris’ presentation was enjoyed very much by those present. Changeover Dinner – Quinneys, Gloucester Park, 6.30 pm, Saturday 16 July 2022.
Planning at Heirisson is a flexible affair (😊), and having found out that a posse of hardy types – Justin, Maddy and Sheridan at possibly more – are planning a fund-raising bike ride in early July meant that we have changed the date of the Changeover Dinner to – Quinneys, Gloucester Park, 6.30 pm, Saturday 16 July 2022. Can you please put that date in your diaries! More info will be provided when we decide what the theme is etc, but ideas welcomed.
