Heirisson Happenings

Hello members,

From Treasurer Don,

Changeover Dinner
Invitations (thank you Rosalie) are out for our Changeover Dinner, being held in The Albany Room, Victoria Park Hotel, 6.00 pm for 6.45 pm, Friday 21 July 2023.  Don says that he has not been overwhelmed with RSVPs yet, and so please advise him if you and yours are attending.  And remember – the theme is the 60s!

Socks in the City
Donations to Socks in the City are coming in, and the first tranche of socks has been purchased for the Street Chaplains.  Please consider either donating socks (80 per cent wool or cotton) or making a financial donation via the website (see https://socksinthecity.org.au/)

Introducing Emilia Navarria from Italy.  Our RYE student for 2023-2024
Emilia Navarria who lives in northern Italy will be arriving in Perth on 26 July.  We have already been in exchange with Emilia and she is a very impressive and mature girl.  Her mentor will be past exchange student Jacqueline, and her first host family will Don and Bev Burnside, who have been busy tidying the guest bedroom!  Debbie Fletcher will also be providing support, and we got all the requirements at an informative briefing conducted by Jill Hanna, who is the RYE Chair for the new District 9423.  Remember, if have not yet got a Working with Children Card, please get one as soon as possible.

Involvement with the new bridge across the Causeway
Thanks to Robin Arndt, we are working with the Main Roads Department in planning some commemorative information to be put on the new pedestrian bridge about FAB Heirisson, plus some information about the flora and fauna on Heirisson Island, as described by Noongah people and western botanists.
